Child of Light is a gorgeous and enchanting RPG from Ubisoft. The game uses the Mesmerizing UbiArt Framework Engine, which was first used in Rayman Origins.
The game features a girl named Aurora, the daughter of an Austrian Duke. She finds herself in a magical land called Lemuria. She must find the sun, moon, and stars, as they have been stolen by a Dark Queen. She must set out on a journey throughout the land to collect them, so she can get home.
Aurora is accompanied by a magical blue firefly named Igniculus, Igniculus aids Aurora by temporarily stunning enemies, and filling up her life meter when needed.
Aurora obtains the ability to fly after she aquires wings a bit into the game. These wings allow for Aurora to explore every nook and cranny in Lemuria. They make the game feel very expansive, and they give you a lot of freedom.
Occasionally gusts of wind and waterfalls will block your way when in flight, so you must problem solve and find your away around the obstacles. This adds a very nice challenge to the gameplay.
Gameplay: The gameplay is perfection, and is everything that you would want in an RPG. Great Battles, incredible visuals, and a magical story.
As the game progresses you encounter various allies, who then join your party, and help you in battle. With that said, The battle system is terrific, i absolutely love how all of the different battle actions are set up. It is Classic RPG fighting at its finest!
The Story in Child of Light is terrific, and really immerses you into a world of watercolor. Each town that you visit, teaches you stories about the area that you are in. It adds to the immersion, and makes you feel like you are one of the locals.
I absolutely loved the design of the game. Ubisoft have really outdone themselves with the UbiArt Engine. The entire game feels like a moving painting. The visuals are truly breathtaking, and i hope for more incredible experiences taking advantage of UbiArt in the future.
The controls are outstanding and very easy to use. You can use the stylus to control Igniculus on the gamepad touchscreen, or just use the joystiq. Now i do have one complaint here, it is that you cannot point the Wii Remote at the sensor bar to control igniculus. You must use the D-Pad on the Wii Remote. The sensor bar will not pick it up. Now this can easily be fixed, but definitely seems a bit lazy on Ubisoft's part not to include the feature.
The Music of Child of Light is captivating and sweeps you away into a dreamlike trance. The soundtrack creates a relaxed tone that makes the gameplay experience all the better. It also adds incredible suspense to battles, and makes you want to bump against enemies over and over again, just to hear the intense score.
Child of Light is an enchanting game, that will have you captivated by the moment it begins. The world is very immersive and contains moments of epic battles and great challenges. Using the wii remote to control igniculus can be a pain, but overall the game is magnificent!
